Congrats to the LSU Tigers on winning this year’s National Championship. From the beginning of the season, I believed that they were this year’s best team, but I understand that Georgia and USC have valid arguments that they were just as deserving.
That leads me to the topic of discussion. Following the footsteps of Florida and LSU, can Georgia secure a third straight National Championship for the SEC? I think that they have a very strong chance of making this a reality. Their incoming freshman class includes the top WR in the nation to join an already explosive offense and they are not losing much to the NFL. If they win, there will be no doubt that the SEC is the unquestioned #1 conference in all of college football. Believe it or not, there are still a good number of doubters a.k.a haters out there in the world.

I believe that Tim Tebow has been the unquestioned best player in college football this year. He should not be penalized just because he is an underclassman. Look at his stats: 3100+ passing yards, 29 passing TDs, 800+ rushing yards and 22 rushing TDs. He was the leading rusher on the team. I can barely produce this type of season by playing NCAA football on the playstation. Granted I suck at video games, but you get my point. This is an insane stat line against top notch competition. Well, I am definitely happy that LSU made this championship game. I have strongly believed throughout the season that they are the best team in the country. Now they will be able to prove me correct. Although, I would have preferred that they play Oklahoma, Georgia or USC because the game would have been more entertaining. I can see a defensive brawl in the matchup against Ohio State.
My first issue has to be the fact that in the span of one week, the Missouri Tigers go from being ranked the #1 team in college football, to not even being in a BCS bowl. I understand the 2 team per conference limitation, but doesn’t it seem more justified to leave out Kansas and take the two teams that played in the conference championship game? (more…)

According to ESPN, Tommy Bowden has signed a contract extension to remain the coach of the Clemson Tigers. It’s no secret that I am a SEC man. I found the initial story that Arkansas was pursuing Tommy Bowden to be hilarious. Arkansas all but ran Houston Nutt out of town and you mean to tell me their answer is to hire a coach that has established a mediocre program in the very mediocre ACC. Razorback fans, consider this contract extension an early Christmas present. Tommy Bowden…Seriously?

As you know, the #1 Missouri Tigers and #2 West Virginia Mountaineers both lost tonight. That leaves two mediocre 1 loss teams in the Top 10 and a bunch of 2 loss teams. After watching this season unfold, there is no reasonable argument that can be made to justify not having a playoff system in the former Division 1A. On any given day, I believe any team in the Top 10 can beat the other, so a single game between the two teams that the “computers” pick will not truly give us a National Champion for this season. Only a string of wins amongst Top 10 competition, would truly determine the best team in the land. Maybe one day someone will see the light.
FYI, I would like to see LSU play Oklahoma.

Are you impressed by the list of undefeated teams in College Football? I’m not. Growing up in South Carolina and later becoming an alum of the University of South Carolina, damn you Vanderbilt, I am a huge fan of the SEC. Even after LSU lost to Kentucky, I never waivered in my belief that they deserve to play in the National Title game. I need OSU or BC to lose. Hopefully, Boston College’s loss will happen tonight against Virginia Tech. Who do you think is the best team in College Football?
Regarding South Carolina, I was not at all surprised that they lost the game. I attended the game vs. UNC and they looked horrible. The definitely did not look like the #6 team in the country. I hoped that we could get a shot at a BCS Bowl. Oh well. At least we are clearly going to the right direction as a program and still have a shot at winning the SEC.

Well, this debate usually starts toward the end of the College Football season, but what the hell. Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past few days, you have undoubtedly heard about App State’s upset victory over the then #5 ranked Michigan Wolverines. With the recent release of the major college poll rankings, Michigan has the dubious honor of falling completely out of both polls. What is the fall out from this loss? So far just a bunch of disappointed Wolverine fans and media banter regarding the Wolverine’s fall from grace. Not to mention Carr is officially on the coaching hot seat.
My immediate thoughts were that this game is a major addition to the ever growing list of arguments as to why college football needs a playoff to truly decide its Champion. Yes, this is the beginning of the season, but are we that naive that we can think the pollsters can only get”it” wrong at the start of the season? I don’t think so. This mistake can and has also been the case at the end of the season. Remember, this Wolverine team has multiple top NFL prospects that returned in hopes of winning a National Championship. What will happen if Michigan beats Wisconsin or Ohio State? Will they also plummet down or out of the polls? I doubt it. It’s time for those in power of the college football empire to do the right thing. Give the fans and the student athletes what they deserve. A playoff that truly crowns the best team in the country.

Boise St’s upset win over Oklahoma, 43-42, in the Fiesta Bowl was probably the best college football game I have seen in 10+ years. It had all the makings of an Instant Classic. The big comeback, the second comeback, overtime and a cinderella victory. All fans in favor of a College Football playoff, have to love this win. This is a HUGE bullet to add to the list of arguments for a playoff. Finally, there is a game that can be used when discussing some parity in what is assumed to be a “parity-less” sport. I can see a bead of sweat on the forehead of the BCS committee members. That sweat is due to the possibilty of Ohio St. losing to Florida and Boise St, 13-0 with a win over powerhouse Oklahoma, not being crowned the National Champions. Go Gators!!!
