Well, I am definitely happy that LSU made this championship game. I have strongly believed throughout the season that they are the best team in the country. Now they will be able to prove me correct. Although, I would have preferred that they play Oklahoma, Georgia or USC because the game would have been more entertaining. I can see a defensive brawl in the matchup against Ohio State.
My first issue has to be the fact that in the span of one week, the Missouri Tigers go from being ranked the #1 team in college football, to not even being in a BCS bowl. I understand the 2 team per conference limitation, but doesn’t it seem more justified to leave out Kansas and take the two teams that played in the conference championship game?
Another issue is choosing Illinois over Arizona State. I don’t think the Big Ten was a strong enough conference to justify have two teams in the BCS bowls. It has to be at the bottom of the big name conferences.
All in all, I am pleased with the National Championship, but as far as the other BCS bowl games, wake me up when they are over. West Virginia’s loss to Pitt kinda dampens the matchup against Oklahoma, but if Pat White is healthy, this may be a decent game. Here are some games that I would have preferred to watch:
USC vs. Georgia - Two of the hottest teams in the country
West Virginia vs. Va Tech - Another border battle.
Missouri vs. Hawaii - Shootout
Oklahoma vs. Arizona State - Well, just because.
The moral of the story is that no matter who wins either bowl game, they have a legitimate argument that they are possibly the best team in the country. Only a playoff will make everyone happy.
