Has Tom Brady supplanted Peyton Manning as the NFL’s best QB? The Best ever?

Manning and Brady

Prior to this season, there was Peyton Manning and then everyone else when debating about the top QB in todays NFL. Well, two things have become clear to me. Although Peyton is a very, very good quarterback, he is not Great. Tom Brady has proven to be Great. Just do a quick comparison between the two. It is known that Brady has three Super Bowls and Manning has one, but even if the tally was 3 to 3, isn’t Brady’s accomplishment more impressive given his lack of offensive fire power. Manning is well on pace to etch his name amongst the greats that hold the NFL passing records, but given the season that Tom Brady is having, do you get the feeling that he would be in the same historical position if he had been placed into a situation with similar offensive talent. Manning suddenly looks mortal without all of his weapons at 100%. The shocking part is how bad he looks even though he still has Addai and Wayne. Does he really “need” Marvin Harrison that much? Tom Brady finally gets offensive weapons that compare to the likes of talent that Peyton has enjoyed his entire career and Brady is on pace to shatter Manning’s single season touchdown record. Just think about the string of seasons that Brady can possibly put together barring injury. (They will not even come close to letting Moss leave after this season.)

Joe Montana

Some of you may think that I’m getting ahead of myself. I am far from a Patriots fan, but I’m in awe of how Brady is leading this team and the offense in particular. There is a generally accepted opinion that has been around for over a decade that Joe Montana is the greatest quarterback to ever play in the NFL. I can’t really argue against this notion, but what if Tom Brady ties Joe Montana by winning a 4th Super Bowl this season. Will his name start to be mentioned in that discussion? A Super Bowl win and another similar season like this year will without a doubt put Brady at the top of my list.
