Aaron Rodgers sure looked great subbing for the future Hall of Famer. Being a Detroit Lions fan, I have seen the good and the bad from Brett Favre. Unfortunately, for the Green Bay Packers, on Thursday night, the bad Brett Favre was on display. I actually, liked the Packers chances for winning the game, see my weekly picks, until I started watching Brett try his best Tony Romo(5 ints vs. the Bills) and Peyton Manning(6 ints at San Diego) impersonations. Officially, Brett threw 2 picks, one happened during the play in which he was injured, but he easily had 2-3 other throws that should have resulted in picks. (more…)
Did Brett Favre’s injury give the Packers their best chance to beat the Cowboys?

The Eagles were oh so close. If nothing else, they laid a blueprint to takedown the Patriots. Unfortunately, for the rest of the league, there doesn’t appear to be another team on their schedule that can match the Eagles’ ability to pass rush, cover and score. Has the ‘08 schedule been released? LOL. I do think(hope) they will lose this season.

The Lions high powered offense has manage to sputter the past couple of weeks. You can imagine how gitty I am to see them play against one of the best defenses in the league. So you can’t argue with Mike Martz being on the hot seat as covered by Fanhouse.

Has Tom Brady supplanted Peyton Manning as the NFL’s best QB? The Best ever?
![]() |
Prior to this season, there was Peyton Manning and then everyone else when debating about the top QB in todays NFL. Well, two things have become clear to me. Although Peyton is a very, very good quarterback, he is not Great. Tom Brady has proven to be Great. Just do a quick comparison between the two. It is known that Brady has three Super Bowls and Manning has one, but even if the tally was 3 to 3, isn’t Brady’s accomplishment more impressive given his lack of offensive fire power. Manning is well on pace to etch his name amongst the greats that hold the NFL passing records, but given the season that Tom Brady is having, do you get the feeling that he would be in the same historical position if he had been placed into a situation with similar offensive talent. Manning suddenly looks mortal without all of his weapons at 100%. (more…)

Has there been a shift in the landscape of Fantasy Football?
I know that there’s still plenty of football left to be played, but after recently kicking myself for drafting Shaun Alexander with the 5th pick in my draft I started to take a look at all of my leagues draft results. The top five picks in each draft were LT, Steven Jackson, Shaun Alexander, Frank Gore and Larry Johnson, in various orders. I have been playing fantasy football for almost 10 years now and the general theory behind winning a league championship has been to have a strong group of running backs. For the most part, this theory has held up. But after taking a look at the league leaders for the current season, I was amazed at the names that were at the top of the list, based on their preseason rank, and I also noticed a shift in the top fantasy position.
Here’s a list that was generated using the standard Yahoo Fantasy Football scoring system, as of this week.
Top 15 Yahoo Fantasy Football Scorers:
- Tom Brady(QB)
- Tony Romo(QB)
- Ben Roethlisberger(QB)
- Derek Anderson(QB)
- Adrian Peterson(RB)
The Ups and Downs of being a Detriot Lions Fan……..mainly downs

Just when I make the mistake of talking trash to fans of other mediocre teams, my beloved Lions lay an egg at Arizona of all places. Watching the Washington Redskins collapse earlier in the day was a pleasant sight. And after giving my cousin, a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a ton of grief for his team losing to the Broncos and Cardinals, we go and have a negative rushing yardage day against the Cardinals. Not to mention that we hand delivered Karlos Dansby’s Hall of Fame buss based on his performance. You can’t be taken as a serious playoff contender and lose to a very mediocre Arizona Cardinals team. Grrrrrr…
And in retrospect, I am second guessing my decision to jump off of the Fire Matt Millen bandwagon. What did we get for Dre Bly? A running back that was just used at most, as a 5 week fill-in for Kevin Jones and an offensive lineman that will be listed on the injury report because of the ringing in his ears from so many false start penalties. Not to mention the lackluster rookie season of Calvin Johnson. I still think he will be a stud, but even Stevie Wonder can see that. Gerald Alexander has been a pleasant surprise, but thats about it from the draft. No matter how difficult the Lion’s schedule appears to be for the remainder of the season, if we don’t finish with a winning record and have a legitimate shot at the playoffs, Matt Millen should be given the boot.

John Madden……The Comedian?
What a great game last night! The Chargers proved that they are truly a mediocre team that needed the unlikely occurrence of stellar special teams play to win this game against a clearly less imposing Colts team that is barely a shell of themselves with all of the injuries. Even after a horrific 6 INT game from Manning, they had a shot at completing the comeback, but came up just short. Great Game!

But a small tid-bit of commentary kind of took away from the potential “classic-ness” of this game. Not sure if it was just my ever ready ears, but did you pick up on an “insensitive” comment by the Hall of Famer, John Madden. Well, during a segment which Al Michaels was talking about the lack of experience at WR on the Colts squad, NBC displayed some photos of Wayne, Moorehead and Thorpe. The focus was that Wayne had 400+ career receptions, while Moorehead had only 25+ and Thorpe had like 2 or so. Anyway, completely out of left field John Madden interrupted Al Michaels and said something to the effect of, “Moorehead will keep his eye on the ball.” No doubt referring to Moorehead’s distinct eyes. I would expect this from a Dennis Miller type, but from a Hall of Fame coach that will possibly become a Hall of Fame broadcaster, I found this to be very unprofessional and very distasteful. John, you owe Mr. Moorehead an apology. You should know better…………..(now, I’m getting off my soap box)

Have we taken the choke tag away from Peyton Manning too soon? Actually, I may have given him more credit had they been blown out. Injuries and such are the logical excuse, but they had devised and executed the perfect game plan to beat the Patriots until those two untimely Manning fumbles. Was it me or did it seem like the Patriots were just being a team player by allowing the NFL to gain some great ratings before effortlessly scoring those final two touchdowns. LOL. Anyway, it was a great game, but unless the Colts are completely healthy, I doubt a rematch in Foxboro will be as close as this game.
