Nostradamus Picks - Week 3

Nostradamus

Last week was horrible for me. Not only did the Browns knock me out of 3 Survivor Football Leagues, but I also got killed by Carson Palmer in Fantasy Football. Week 3 is a welcome site.

Cardinals vs. Ravens
The Ravens still looks pretty bad on offense, but they seemed a bit better with Kyle Boller under center. It appears that McNair is back this week. The Cardinals got a good win last week, but don’t expect a streak to start. Edge will finally hit a road block.
Pick: Ravens

49ers vs. Steelers
The 49ers are living up to their preseason hype. Unfortunately, they lost Manny Lawson for the season, but they should be able to maintain. The key issue with this team right now is the play of Alex Smith. Norv Turner’s departure has significantly effected his production. Although, I can see the 49ers defense making a game of it, I don’t think they have enough to stop the Steeler offense. Smith could be in for a long day.
Pick: Steelers

Lions vs. Eagles
As much as I would like to see McNabb and the Eagles get back on track, I can’t pick against my Lions. Their offense looks as good on the field as they look on paper and the defense has played very solid. This will be the Lions first test, but one that I believe they will pass. The Lions are built to contain teams that have a short passing game like the Eagles.
Pick: Lions

Chargers vs. Packers
The Chargers have had a rough start to the season. The pulled out a gritty win over Chicago in Week 1, but got hammered in Week 2 against the Patriots. Their offense didn’t look very good in either game, but they played against stout defenses. Well, they should have an easy win against the Pack, right? I don’t think so. The Packers look very good on defense and they are at home. My gut is telling me to pick the Packers, but I am worried about the majority of their injury list containing almost every important defensive player on their roster. This should be a good game.
Pick: Chargers

Rams vs. Bucs
Well, the Bucs appear to be getting better while the Rams have fell completely on their face. After two home losses, it doesn’t get any better on the road against a Bucs team that destroyed the Saints.
Pick: Bucs

Dolphins vs. Jets
Do they have to play? Can’t we just flip a coin? This is a “battle” between two winless teams. If you’re looking for a good way to punish your husband, force him to watch this one. Both of these teams have worked hard for their record. I’ll go with the home team just because.
Pick: Jets

Bills vs. Patriots
The Bills do not look like they will get better anytime soon. Their performance and record accurately reflect a team with the leagues most difficult schedule. Sorry guys. Brady and Moss appear to be on a mission and can’t afford to rock the boat with a let down this early in the season.
Pick: Patriots

Vikings vs. Chiefs
Tavaris Jackson at quarterback is not the answer. I don’t know why the Vikings weren’t amongst the bidders trying to sign Byron Leftwich. The good thing for the Vikings is that the Chiefs look horrific. The bad thing is that the Chiefs are desperate and playing at home.
Pick: Chiefs

Colts vs. Texans
The Colts had a tough fight against the Titans last week, but that was expected. The Titans always play tough against the Colts. This week the Texans will take their 2-0 record against the leaders of the division. Unfortunately, they will be without their best playmaker, Andre Johnson, but it wouldn’t have made much difference. The Colts and Patriots are the clear cut class of the NFL at this point.
Pick: Colts

Bengals vs. Seahawks
The www.ihatecincybengals.com server crashed after their loss to the once thought lackluster Cleveland Browns last week. Primarily due to some quick exits in many Survivor Leagues throughout the Web. LOL. Well, the Bengals proved that they have an elite offense, but they also proved their defense needs a lot of work. The Seahawks don’t have the passing attack that they possessed in the past which is the clear Achilles heel for the Cincy defense.
Pick:Bengals

Browns vs. Raiders
If Anderson can play at least 1/3 as well as he played last week, they should beat the Raiders.
Pick: Browns

Jaguars vs. Broncos
This is a marquee matchup of the weekend. Although the Broncos are 2-0, they certainly do not look like they deserve it. Two squeakers against the Bills and Raiders. Not exactly the top tier of the AFC. I think the Jags defense will rattle the young Cutler and force him to make a lot of mistakes. Even though the game is at mile high, I think the Jags have enough offense to pull out a victory.
Pick: Jaguars

Giants vs. Redskins
Amazingly, the root cause of the Giants 0-2 start doesn’t really have much to do with Eli Manning. Their defense is horrible. Luckily for the Giants, the Redskins offense isn’t much of a threat, but it is improving under Jason Campbell.
Pick: Redskins

Panthers vs. Falcons
With such a great opening week, the Panthers deceived everyone and laid an egg against the Texans. There’s nothing better to build your confidence than to play against a Joey Harrington led team.
Pick: Panthers

Cowboys vs. Bears
We will finally get to see if the Cowboys are for real. I great as their offense has played, their defense has played equally bad. The stout defense of the Bears can contain the Cowboys and Rex Grossman should be able to produce enough points to pull off a victory.
Pick: Bears

Titans vs. Saints
The Saints desperately need to win, but I think even more they need to look competitive. The were horrible against the Colts and Bucs, but did manage to score some garbage time points. Maybe this is the little nudge that they need to get on track. Fortunately, for the Saints, the Titans are not the type of team with the passing game to exploit the shaky secondary of the Saints.
Pick: Saints. Is the third time the charm?

Byes: None.
Last Week: 11-5
Overall: 22-10
