This signing could possibly send shockwaves throughout the top of the draft. It has been widely speculated that the Browns would take Adrian Peterson with the #3 pick in April’s NFL Draft. Prior to this signing, that was a very understandable possibility. It is still possible that the Browns will draft Peterson, but I think it is a little less likely. Even though they only signed Lewis to a one year contract, why would you sign him if you plan on bringing in a stud through the draft? Are they that concerned about Oakland or Detroit taking Peterson? I don’t think so. Do they want Lewis to handle the running game for a year and then hand the keys to Peterson? This is not a QB grooming, so again, I don’t think so. They have Droughns and he is good enough to handle this kind of role if that’s the role which they intend to use Lewis.
So, if I don’t think they will draft Peterson, who do I think they are focused on picking? Calvin Johnson is the best athlete in the draft class so he is always a possibility. But I think they may have Brady Quinn on their mind. Romeo and Charlie Weis have a long history together. I am sure that Crennel squeezed every drop of information that he could get from Weis and I am sure that Weis was trying to sell his understudy to a team that needs a QB.
I don’t buy the notion that Cleveland will be leery of drafting a QB because of Tim Couch. Tim who? Does anyone outside of Cleveland remember this guy? My only concern is that by drafting Quinn, Romeo could be setting up a good team for the next guy. Just like Denny Green.
What does this mean for AD? Well he could slide like everyone is projecting Quinn to slide. Out of the Top 12. Only the Bills at 12 and maybe the Texans at 8 “need†a RB. He would be a GREAT steal for anyone willing to trade up in that range to pick him.
Good Luck AD. I am a fan. Hmmm, Matt, pull a Ditka. Trade all of our picks for the #3 slot. Calvin Johnson and AD. Well, if they won’t be on the Lions team, they will definitely be on my fantasy team.
